MaRS Canadian Citizenship Ceremony
Our choir was asked to participate in the Citizenship Ceremony at MaRS Thursday June 4, 2009. They sang "I Believe" (A very appropriate song about new beginnings!) and then led the whole room in singing the national anthem in both French and English. It was such a special morning. Check out the 2 videos Below and oh yes--the cake! Thank you so much to everyone at MaRS who was so welcoming to our group and invited us to stay for the reception. And congratulations to all of the new Canadians!

A Note to Remember...and upcoming events!
Thank you to everyone who came out to support us at "A Note to Remember" this past Monday. And thank you to those who sent in donations despite not being able to attend. Our spring fundraiser was an amazing success! To see the 3 minute video (produced by Damali Kai Little-White) highlighting the school in our 10th year, please visit http://vimeo.com/4816720. Stay tuned for pictures of our choir singing with the Barenaked Ladies! Thank you to our sponsors, the fundraising committee, board members, volunteers, and all who helped the evening go smoothly.
Wayne and the Choir with BNL!

If you didn't get enough of our students at the fundraiser, you are invited to come to "Celebration! 2009", our end-of-year recital featuring many of our students. This event is mainly for our students, families, and faculty to celebrate all of the hard work everyone has shown throughout the year but it's also a great opportunity for supporters of our school to see a full program of our students performing. We will also announce our 2009-2010 scholarship winners. Please call or email the school if you'd like more information.
Coming up on Canada Day (July 1, 2009) our students will be providing an hour-long Canadian themed performance at Harbourfront! Please come out to support us and see our pianists, violinists, vocalists, string ensemble, and more!

Sylvia...A Celebration!
Last night members of the community gathered to celebrate the life of Sylvia Morawetz. Sylvia was a significant supporter of the Regent Park School of Music. As one of our honourary patrons, she continued the Oskar Morawetz Scholarship which was established in 2001 by Dr. Oskar Morawetz and is awarded annually to a piano student showing great promise in his or her study. Performing last night were two previous Scholarship winners, a vocal soloist, and the RPSM choir, led by Wayne Strongman. Sylvia helped make Regent Park School of Music what it is today and she will be greatly missed.

Jim Creeggan Joins Choir Rehearsal!
Yesterday Jim Creeggan from the Barenaked Ladies stopped by our choir rehearsal to go over the songs they will be singing together at our upcoming fundraiser on Monday May 25th. The kids had so much fun! There was stomping, jumping, clapping, and most of all...singing! Thank you so much Jim!
